Overview

The purpose of this position is to develop, deploy and maintain automation and controls systems involving HMI (human machine interface), SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems, along with ensuring proper interface and operation of sensors and electronic equipment associated with the SCADA system within WaterOne.

Pay Range:  From $34.23/hour

Responsibilities

  • Creates and edits programmable logic code within the PLCs and SCADA system to control or automate complex treatment and distribution processes.
  • Creates and edits workstation or remote HMI screens for monitoring and controlling treatment and distribution processes.
  • Coordinates with Operations, I.T., Engineering, Maintenance and Distribution departments, as well as SCADA vendors to meet SCADA needs.
  • Troubleshoots operations and distribution problems related to SCADA processes.
  • Reads and interprets electrical and electronic schematics for the purpose of design, installation or troubleshooting.
  • Writes and interprets process control narratives.
  • Researches industry trends and recommends the need for additions, changes or upgrades that may be necessary to keep the system up to date.
  • Tests all logic and graphics changes before deployment.
  • Maintains accurate and legible logs and records or files in accordance with WaterOne policy and procedures and governing laws and regulations.
  • Documents all processes and changes related to the SCADA system.
  • Performs all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • On a rotating schedule, responds to service calls outside of normal work schedule.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • High school graduate or GED required; graduation from an accredited college, vocational technical or trade school, with training in electronics or information technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years working with SCADA HMI programming or other Process Control Systems.
    (Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in meeting the requirements above.)
  • Knowledge of SCADA principles including I/O, scaling, alarming, archiving, scripting, Boolean logic, object libraries and graphics design.
  • Knowledge of PLC principles including; ladder logic, function block, Add on Instructions, structured text and PID controls.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Operating System and the Microsoft Office suite including; Word, Access and Excel.
  • Knowledge of AVEVA System Platform, Visual Basic, and Microsoft SQL Server. Requires basic knowledge of data communications protocols including TCP/IP, MODBUS TCP/IP, Control NET, Device NET and Ethernet.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond to call-out for emergencies.
  • Ability to learn and apply applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 70 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to apply a “buddy system” for products weighing more than 70 lbs. Employee must be able to work at varying heights, typically 5 feet to 15 feet above the floor.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision (including ability to distinguish colors), and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, toxic chemicals and heat. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

 

Protective equipment, including but not limited to personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, may be required and shall be maintained in the sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of process or environment, chemical hazards, or mechanical hazard encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.
