Overview

The purpose of this position is to perform legal research and analysis and provide support for all other tasks of WaterOne Legal Services Department.

Pay Range:  $18/hr

Responsibilities

  • Conducts legal research and provides legal analysis as required. Communicates effectively with staff and others to determine the factual basis underlying legal issues. Reads and analyzes cases from available legal research sources. Conducts legal research via computer aided services such as WESTLAW. Prepares and provides a written memorandum, pleading or brief setting forth legal analysis. 
  • Assists in drafting resolutions, administrative policies, and other legal documents. Communicates effectively with staff and others to determine needs and limitations of documents. Conducts legal research as necessary. Prepares written drafts and related memoranda and documents. Presents analysis of proposed documents.
  • Files pleadings and documents in court on WaterOne’s behalf. Travels to appropriate court.
  • Must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with people or organizations with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • Must be first, second, or third year student in an accredited law school.
  • Requires ability to read and comprehend statutes, regulations, case law, ordinances, legal reference materials, and legal correspondence.
  • Requires ability to analyze legal issues.
  • Requires ability to write perceptively, coherently, thoroughly, and succinctly.
  • Requires ability to understand the legislative process and the elements necessary to enact a constitutional and otherwise unassailable law.
  • Requires ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
  • Requires ability to interact well with others.
  • Requires high energy level person who exercises initiative, maturity, and good judgment in completion of work assignments.
  • Must be able to work on an “as needed” schedule.
  • Must be able to do legal research off-site.
  • Must be well organized and capable of prioritizing work to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Must communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Must be detail oriented and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Must maintain professional appearance.
  • Must be punctual and maintain above average attendance.
  • Must pass post offer medical exam, including background verification and drug screen (may not apply to current employees).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee must be able to use a computer for multiple hours a day. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, printer, and copy machine. Must be able to be attentive for extended periods of time.
