Under direct supervision, provide detailed designs, cost estimates, plans, drawings, and evaluations of various types of water works improvement projects.  Coordinate engineering and administration of construction between WaterOne and other utilities, engineering firms, developers, and public works entities.  Operate in a consulting capacity to other departments on technical engineering issues when assigned.

Pay Range:  From $27.02/hr

  • Review plans submitted by outside entities for new development projects and determine effects on WaterOne facilities.
  • Initiate projects and perform design and estimate of water works facilities related to new development based on WaterOne standards.
  • Communicate and coordinate with consulting engineers, fire protection entities, municipalities, and other utilities on issues related to proposed improvements to or relocation of WaterOne distribution system facilities pertaining to new development.
  • Work closely with WaterOne construction personnel to ensure complete understanding of project intent and to resolve issues that arise during construction.
  • Assist other departments by providing technical engineering opinions and data.
  • Ensure all projects follow WaterOne Standards, Rules and Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • Required education and experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in construction sciences and management or construction Management (or similar); or
    • Associate’s degree in engineering technology (or similar) and two years of experience; or
    • High School Diploma (or GED) and four years of experience as an Engineering Technician or performing equivalent work.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to develop design drawings for construction of water works improvements.
  • Knowledge of computer technology, including the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Experience with enterprise resource planning software such as SAP is a plus.
  • Experience and skill in the use of computer-aided design systems and must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be a good listener.
  • Knowledge of legal descriptions of land.
  • Knowledge of easements.
  • Ability to approach problem solving in a logical manner.
  • Well organized and able to set priorities.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to assimilate information from several sources to complete a project.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships and be team oriented.
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment and to be innovative.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime and to respond to occasional emergency callouts.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).


Preferred Education, Skills & Experience

  • Engineering Technician Certificate.
  • Experience in the water utility industry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to use a computer for multiple hours a day. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, printer, and copy machine. The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to occasionally position self to inspect or view field activities.

This job operates in both the field and a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except when in the field on a jobsite.
