Overview

WaterOne is searching for hard-working, motivated, and passionate students for our Meter Services department as a Summer Meter Repair.  This excellent opportunity will provide you the ability to work with our experienced Meter Services staff and gain valuable, hands-on, experience in maintenance and repair of water meters.  At WaterOne, we are passionate about what we do and we take pride in being an industry leader.  Properly working water meters are crucial to maintaining cost efficiency for our customers.  We have over 400,000 customers in our service area and we are looking for students who are eager to step up to the challenge of maintaining and repairing our water meters to ensure an excellent customer experience.

What you’ll be doing…

The purpose of this position is to repair, replace and maintain meters, meter installations and related plumbing accessories of all service connections serving WaterOne domestic accounts.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Replace and repair water meters.
  • Tests meter for accuracy in the meter shop; test large meter for accuracy using field test equipment.
  • Repair leaks on meters, meter connections and meter setters.
  • Record all pertinent data on meter repair work orders and distribution complaint reports, and keep records of all materials and parts used in the work.
  • Replace meter pit lids, electronic meter wiring and connections.
  • Install and service filter devices for water quality monitoring purposes in customer service lines.
  • Prepare used meters for scrap or factory reconditioning as determined.

 

Other Duties

 

  • Maintain daily contact with Meter Repair and Tapping Foreman, and Dispatcher.
  • Assist other crews and departments with service to them, such as confirmation of high bill checks, leaks on customer plumbing, pump water from meter pits, remove and replace meters, and other meter needs.
  • Schedule routine maintenance of assigned vehicle, and report problems with vehicle to Fleet Mechanic Foreman. Maintain clean vehicle, tools and equipment.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills & Experience 

  • High school education with skills in basic math and legible handwriting.
  • Read and interpret maps from the WaterOne GIS system and other sources.
  • Have a clear understanding of WaterOne rules & regulations pertaining to service connections and metering.
  • Interact with customers and can explain where WaterOne’s responsibility for service lines, meters and installations ends and where customer’s responsibility begins.
  • Have mechanical aptitude and can use hand and power tools for replacement/repairs.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Ability to work with no direct supervision after receiving initial work assignments and be able to use good judgment and make sound decisions based on knowledge of the job and knowledge of WaterOne rules & regulations.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills
  • Requires ability to work in all kinds of weather.
  • Must have excellent attendance.
  • Must pass a post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background investigation (may not apply to current employees).

 

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience 

  • Post high school education in technical discipline.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and up to 10 pounds constantly. The employee must be able to use a computer for five hours a day. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day.  The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to occasionally position self to inspect, repair, install and remove meters and be able to work in outdoor weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, toxic chemicals and heat. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
