WaterOne is searching for hard-working, motivated, and passionate students for our Construction and Maintenance department as a 2023 Summer Fire Hydrant Auditor.  This excellent seasonal opportunity will provide you the opportunity to work with our experienced Construction and Maintenance staff and gain valuable, hands-on experience in maintenance and operation of fire hydrants.  At WaterOne, we are passionate about what we do and we take pride in being an industry leader.  Properly working fire hydrants are crucial to maintaining the safety of our customers.  We have over 19,000 fire hydrants in our service area and we are looking for seasonal summer help who are eager to step up to the challenge of auditing them to ensure they work safely and properly.

Pay rate is $17.00 per hour.  

What you’ll be doing…

You will play an important role in maintaining and operating fire hydrants throughout the WaterOne service area.  The Fire Hydrant Auditors will inspect and test the hydrants to ensure they are working correctly and have the proper water pressure.  This opportunity gives you a chance to learn a new set of skills from industry experts and apply your hard-working attitude to a job that allows you to contribute in a valuable way to your community.

• The successful candidates will be able to commit to a minimum of 13 weeks starting May 15, 2023, must have graduated from high school in the class of 2023 or prior, and is currently enrolled in a college, university or votech program.
• You must also:
• Have a strong work ethic and be comfortable work outdoors during the summer
• Have valid driver’s license and a good driving record
• Pass a post-offer medical exam, including background verification and drug screen
• Be able to work Monday – Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week)

• Operates and maintains fire hydrants.
• Assists in maintaining truck inventory and in servicing, repair, or replacement of equipment and tools assigned to truck.
• Keeps trucks and equipment clean and well organized.
• Reads and interprets WaterOne maps. Uses GIS mapping system, PC and plotter.
• Locates and records ties on new and existing hydrants manually and using GPS equipment.
• Performs tests on branch valve, flushes hydrants and runs pressure tests on fire hydrants to determine proper working condition of hydrant. Records inspection information daily and is able to use electronic device to record and download data.
• Operates hand and power tools and other equipment used at work sites.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED required, along with current enrollment in college, university or vocational progam.
• Experience working/performing in summer weather conditions.
• Must be able to read and understand maps and blueprints on paper and in electronic format.
• Must have knowledge of traffic safety work zone regulations and the ability to install warning devices to provide a safe working zone.
• Requires good verbal and written communication skills, ability to read and to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with customers and co-workers in emergency situations. Must be a good listener.
• Must be able to establish and maintain good working relations with employees and the public.
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
• Must continuously meet WaterOne driving standards. Two or more moving violations in 24 months prior to application disqualify a candidate.
• Must have good PC skills and the ability to use software used at WaterOne.
• Must meet departmental attendance expectations.
• Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees). This position is also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Physical Job Requirements:

• Must be able to move or transport equipment, tools, or other items weighing up to 75 lbs. frequently.
• Must be able to use a computer.
• Must be able to move from one location to another frequently.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
• Must be able to constantly work in outdoor weather conditions.
