    Job Summary/Objective


    The purpose of this position is to requisition, receive, stock, and issue inventory supplies and coordinate the flow of material to support WaterOne operations.  The incumbent is responsible for performing storekeeping and warehousing functions, which provide materials for maintenance or construction of water transmission and distribution systems and related materials.  The WaterOne Inventory Control function is responsible for a multi-million-dollar inventory that turns several times per year.

    Essential Functions

    • Coordinates special projects and assignments as required.
    • Prepares purchase requisitions for materials. Uses blanket order vendors to full advantage.
    • Monitors materials usage by reviewing inventory reports as directed by the Foreman and by making spot inventory checks. Maintains min and max inventory levels.
    • Confers with the Foreman on material forecasting and delivery lead time.
    • Help with issuing materials and receiving returned materials according to WaterOne policy.
    • Recommends, as needed, new material stock levels and new types of materials to be stocked.
    • Assists in receiving of materials as required in all types of weather conditions.
    • Aid with unloading trucks, inspecting materials for damage, checking for correct amount shipped, completing necessary goods receipts and storing material appropriately.
    • Supports business processes to eliminate or reduce damage or loss of materials, supplies and inventory.
    • As directed by the Foreman, conducts monthly cycle counting process following established procedures.



    Other Duties


    • Assists with preparing material for shipping, including materials being returned to vendors.
    • Issues hydrant meters.
    • Help WaterOne crews and external customers by answering questions and making inventory recommendations
    • Maintains strong working relationships with suppliers and internal customers
    • Coordinates with the Foreman a monthly safety review of the warehouse and yard.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Required Education, Skills & Experience


    • High school graduate or have a GED.
    • Two to four years’ experience in warehousing.
    • Extensive knowledge of warehousing, material handling methods and a clear understanding of how WaterOne material is assembled and used.
    • Know inventory control, inventory nomenclature, storage locations, and how to operate material handling equipment.
    • Able to perform required mathematical calculations.
    • Have good written and verbal communication skills and be a good listener.
    • Have or be able to acquire knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of water mains, valves, fire hydrants, service connections and appurtenances.
    • Full knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions and have a strong commitment to complying with all applicable safety requirements.
    • Proficiency with personal computers, including experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
    • Must be well organized and able to work on multiple assignments.
    • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
    • Use sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills.
    • Maintain good relationships with WaterOne employees, suppliers, vendors, and transportation personnel.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
    • Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).


    Preferred Education, Skills & Experience


    • Experience with a water utility or with materials related to plumbing.
    • Coordinates the work of Inventory Control Specialists daily and department activities as directed by and in the absence of the Foreman.
    • Assists with training Inventory Control Specialists on all material handling equipment and other pertinent subjects in conjunction with efforts of the Foreman and other resources.
    • Experience with barcoding or automated material tracking processes.
    • Experience with SAP or a similar ERP inventory management system.
    • Inventory and/or warehouse certifications as well as involvement with local trade organizations.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and 20 pounds constantly. The employee must be able to use a computer for five hours a day. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, printer, and copy machine. The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to occasionally position self be able to place or retrieve items in a warehouse.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, toxic chemicals and heat. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
