    WaterOne is searching for talented, creative, and eager-to-learn engineering teinrns for our Facilities Engineering department. This unique, paid-internship will provide an excellent opportunity for you to gain real world experience by assisting the Facilities Engineering Staff on a multitude of exciting projects that impact the world’s most valuable resource – water!

    What you’ll be doing…

    You will play a crucial role in project plan development by utilizing AutoCAD, reviewing and developing project specifications, assisting in actual field construction inspection, researching products, and project estimating. This excellent opportunity gives you the chance to learn from our experts in the field, show your stuff, and be hands-on with a leader in the water production and distribution industry.

    We are looking for candidates who have a passion for Engineering and want to make the most out of an opportunity to apply their education, skills, and talents!

    • The successful candidates will have completed a minimum of sophomore year in an Engineering degree program with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • You must:
      • Possess good written and verbal communication skills
      • Have strong computer and technical skills
      • Be able to commit to working with us for a minimum of 12 weeks (late May through mid-August) 
      • Have valid driver’s license and a good driving record
      • Pass a post offer medical exam, including background verification and drug screen
      • Be able to work Monday – Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm (40 hours per week)



    • Assist Project Engineers in the design and inspection of production and other facilities.
    • Apply engineering fundamentals and established design practices in assisting to develop and implement project plans.
    • Provide detailed sketches, technical information, and assistance for preparation of engineering drawings for construction or modifications of facilities.
    • Gather information from other utilities, engineering firms, and other resources as assigned.
    • Conduct research to help develop project cost estimates.
    • Inspect construction work to determine compliance with standards of accuracy and quality as directed.
    • Review manufacturer's drawings and manuals for accuracy and compliance with WaterOne specifications.
    • Operate instruments and equipment for surveying and for pressure and flow measurements.
    • Attend meetings regarding projects as assigned.
    • Write specifications, memos, and letters as assigned.
    • Perform other job duties as assigned.




    1. Minimum educational requirement of completing at least two years towards degree in engineering. Course work with an emphasis on mathematics, hydraulics, mechanical systems, concrete and steel design, electrical controls and circuits, and land surveying is preferred.
    2. Demonstrated capability for good judgment, initiative, sound planning and analytical skills.
    3. Requires good problem solving skills and attention to detail.
    4. Requires the ability to read plans and specifications.
    5. Must be able to apply applicable safety standards pertaining to engineering and construction work, including, but not limited to, excavation safety, traffic safety, and the use of personal protective equipment.
    6. Knowledge and skill in the use of traditional and computerized drafting instruments and equipment, particularly in the use of CAD/GIS (Computer Aided Drafting/Geographic Information Systems).
    7. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    8. Requires good interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communications skills, and good listening skills.
    9. Must have a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
    10. Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).

    Physical Job Requirements:

    1. Must be able to move or transport items weighing up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
    2. Must be able to use a computer for up to several hours a day.
    3. Must be able to occasionally position self to inspect or view field activities.
    4. Must be able to move from one location to another frequently.
    5. Must be able to operate a vehicle.
