WaterOne is searching for hard-working, motivated, and passionate students for our Grounds Maintenance department.  This one of a kind job will provide you an opportunity to work with our experienced Grounds Maintenance staff and gain valuable, hands-on, real world experience in property and grounds maintenance.  At WaterOne, we are passionate about what we do and we take pride in being an industry leader. 

What you’ll be doing…

You will play an important role in maintaining the upkeep and appearance of several WaterOne grounds and facilities.  The Grounds Maintenance crew will landscape WaterOne grounds by mowing grass, trimming hedges, bushes, and trees while also performing several other tasks that are critical to keeping our facilities looking top-notch!  You will have an opportunity to learn from our experts and gain valuable knowledge about grounds maintenance.

  • The successful candidates will be able to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks and must have graduated from high school in the class of 2016 or are currently enrolled in a college or university 
  • You Must:
    • Have a strong work ethic and be able to work outdoors in the beautiful Kansas, summer temperatures
    • Have valid driver’s license and a good driving record
    • Pass a post offer medical exam, including background verification and drug screen
    • Be able to work Monday – Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm (40 hours per week)

  • Performs lawn seeding, sodding, mowing, power raking and trimming of hedges, shrubs and trees.
  • Applies fertilizers, insect sprays and weed control sprays.
  • Inspects and cleans up grounds before mowing to prevent injury or property damage from debris or hidden objects.
  • Sharpens mower blades and performs routine maintenance on lawn equipment.
  • Cuts down dead trees and keeps grounds cleared of tree limbs and trash.
  • Repairs fences, broken windows and does other needed maintenance work as instructed.
  • Performs painting or staining of walls, floors, trim, doors, handrails, pipes, equipment, and other items.
  • Inspects equipment such as mowers, tractors and fertilizer machines to insure they are in proper working order.
  • Perform all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED. 
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.                
  • Must get along well with WaterOne personnel and others.
  • Must follow instructions properly.
  • Must be able to work safely with tractors, mowers, and other equipment.
  • Must be knowledgeable in proper confined space entry and the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Must have experience with or have the ability to learn and apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.
  • Must pass post offer medical exam, including background investigation and drug screen (may not apply to current employees).


  • Must be able to move or transport items weighing up to 100 lbs. occasionally; up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Must be able to frequently position self to perform grounds maintenance activities.
  • Must be able to move from one location to another frequently.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders occasionally.
  • Must be able to constantly work in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to meet qualifications for using air purifying and air supplied respiratory protection.
