WaterOne is searching for a hard-working and motivated student to join our team this summer as a Summer Inventory Specialist.  This excellent opportunity will provide you with the ability to work with our experienced staff in our warehouse and learn about procurement, requisitions, and inventory supply.  The Summer Inventory Specialist plays a critical role in helping ensure that the WaterOne staff has the tools and equipment needed to provide outstanding service to our customers. 


What you’ll be doing…


You will play an important role by assisting with order requisitions, receiving, stocking, issuing inventory supplies and coordinating the flow of materials to support WaterOne operations.  This opportunity gives you a chance to learn new skills in supply management and item procurement while also getting to work with an enterprise resource planning program, and more!

  • The successful candidates will be able to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks and must have graduated from high school in the class of 2017 or are currently enrolled in a college or university 
  • You Must:
    • Have valid driver’s license and a good driving record
    • Pass a post offer medical exam, including background verification and drug screen
    • Be able to perform necessary mathematical calculations, write legibly, and speak distinctly
    • Be able to operate a computer and office equipment – preferably have experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource software
    • Be able to work Monday – Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week)

  • Ships material. This involves packing, weighing and loading of trucks.
  • Receiving material. This involves the unloading of trucks, processing paper work, entering data in SAP, and checking shipments for completeness or damage and placing materials in the appropriate location.
  • Maintains clean and neat work area by washing down dock, sweeping warehouse and dusting shelves.
  • Cleans and returns to stock salvaged materials from various jobs.
  • Issues inventory and non-inventory materials and keeps accurate record of such transactions. Prepares requisitions for both inventory and non-inventory materials.
  • Orders material over the telephone as needed.
  • Processes miscellaneous work orders daily.
  • Processes work orders from Annual Line Extension Contractor and WaterOne crews.
  • Orders materials as needed for WaterOne storage bins. Processes required paperwork.
  • Maintains warehouse shelving and bins as needed.
  • Takes periodic cycle counts of inventory and non-inventory materials as directed.
  • Issues fire hydrant meters and cash sales on miscellaneous material. Operates cash drawer, which might consist of receiving checks/cash for various deposits.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by using safe job methods and procedures to avoid on-the-job injury.
  • Performs job in a manner to safeguard against careless handling, misuse or disappearance of material, supplies and inventory.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.


  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Prefer some experience in warehousing with a water utility or working with materials related to plumbing or water utilities.
  • Must be able to perform the necessary mathematical calculations, write legibly, and speak distinctly.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and office equipment. Prefer experience working with SAP or a similar enterprise resource planning inventory management system.  Experience in operating material handling equipment is preferred.
  • Must have a strong commitment to complying with all applicable safety requirements.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Must maintain good relationships with WaterOne employees, suppliers, vendors, and transportation personnel.
  • Must pass post offer physical medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to move or transport items weighing up to 100 lbs. occasionally; up to 50 lbs. frequently; up to 20 lbs. constantly.
  • Must be able to frequently retrieve items in a warehouse using appropriate equipment or tools.
  • Must be able to use a computer for up to several hours a day.
  • Must be able to move from one location to another constantly.
  • Must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a calculator, printer, and copy machine.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for occasional periods of time.
