Overview

Under the guidance of the Manager of Safety and Security, the Safety and Security Administrator assists with implementing the WaterOne safety and security program in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contractual agreements, policies, procedures, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the implementation and continuous improvement of a comprehensive safety and security program that is fully integrated with other business objectives.*
  • Stays current with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, consensus standards, and best practices pertaining to safety and security.*
  • Receives initial reports for occupational injuries and illnesses and vehicle accidents; arranges for any required post-incident drug and alcohol testing; notifies occupational medicine provider and insurance carrier; and maintains OSHA 300 logs and other required recordkeeping.
  • May assist with the administration of workers compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time, identifying alternative duty assignments, and coordinating medical treatment if needed.
  • Assists with the field review and evaluation of tasks to help reduce risks and ensure compliance with applicable security and safety requirements.*
  • Performs or assists with periodic facility, safety and security inspections, reviews, and audits.*
  • Assists as required with documentation of security and safety-related incidents.*
  • May assist with the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations. Works very closely with internal Insurance Coordinator
  • Assists with emergency response drills, audits and inspections such as: fire drills, other evacuation, equipment checks, and inside sheltering drills.*
  • Provides security orientation for new hires when necessary*
  • Arranges for DOT drug and alcohol testing, as well as any other drug and alcohol testing requested or required under WaterOne policy and business practices.*
  • Issues and deactivates as necessary employee and contractor proximity card badges; ensures that badges will access those locations determined by the leadership team to be necessary for the position; and maintains appropriate records. Arranges for vendor maintenance and repair of the proximity card access control system as needed.*
  • Processes employee reimbursements for safety shoes and Commercial Driver’s Licenses when those items are required for the employee’s position. Assists employees with obtaining prescription safety glasses when they are requested.*
  • Obtains and maintains Safety Data Sheets to help ensure compliance with Hazard Communication regulatory requirements.*
  • Maintains employee medical records in compliance with applicable regulatory and policy requirements.*
  • Assists with administrative and recordkeeping requirements for other safety program elements as required.*
  • Provides oversight for the maintenance and repair of WaterOne security systems by WaterOne staff, third parties, and contractors as assigned.*
  • Documents corrective actions to address routine safety and security concerns, and escalates non-routine issues to the manager level as appropriate.*
  • Follows established procedures and maintains appropriate records pertaining to the assignment of locks, keys and lockers to WaterOne employees.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry security programs or groups.
  • Works closely with internal auditing group to harvest lessons from reportable findings.
  • Analyzes and interprets information from loss history.
  • Maintains confidentiality and escalates when appropriate all sensitive information including, but not exclusive to: HIPPA, security systems, employee incidents, and safety concerns.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Associates degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Safety, Human Resources, or a related field required. Course work or training in security, safety, regulatory compliance, and information technology preferred.
  • Minimum one year of safety and/or security administrative experience required.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in meeting qualifications listed above.  
  • Must have knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, and standards in safety and security (including State of Kansas Workers’ Compensation)
  • Must have demonstrated organization, planning, and customer service skills.
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations is preferred.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  Experience with enterprise resource planning software such as SAP a plus.
  • Must be an effective communicator in English, both verbally and in writing.  Must be a good listener.
  • Knowledge of proximity card access control systems is a must.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Must be available to support the needs of the organization during occasional call out to respond to routine and non-routine needs.
  • Must pass a post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).

Physical Job Requirements

  • Must be able to move or transport items weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 20 lbs. frequently.*
  • Must be able to use a computer for up to several hours a day.*
  • Must be able to occasionally position self to be able to inspect, view, or examine tasks, activities, and equipment to help ensure safety and security compliance.*
  • Must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a calculator, printer, and copy machine.*
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle or remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day.*
  • Must be able to move from one location to another frequently.*
  • Must be able to see, read, and interpret handwritten and printed documents, correspondence, manuals, computer screen, office documents, etc.; be able to distinguish colors; and have adequate depth perception. *
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to temperature and humidity extremes and precipitation. *
  • Must be able to occasionally climb ladders and stand or work on elevated surfaces.*

Protective equipment, including but not limited to personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, may be required and shall be maintained in the sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of process or environment, chemical hazards, or mechanical hazard encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.
